Happy New Year // 2022 Goals + How I'm Reaching Them, Plus My Year of Intent

Updated: Jan 17

Y'all, I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that 2021 is OVER. It was by far the worst year of my life, and the last 6 months or so were incredibly strenuous. Obviously, that is why I haven't posted on here in awhile. There has been little going on in my life, other than grief. That, however, is a story for another time. Today, I want to share all of my goals for 2022 and how I plan to reach them.

Now, if you remember, last year, I posted a blog post about things I do in the new year, including not sharing my goals. However, last year when I did this, I quickly realized there is no one to hold me accountable, and once we hit July and my life started to fall apart (again, a story for another time), I realized that there would be no reaching goals for me, at least not the goals I thought I wanted to reach.

This year, not only am I sharing my goals with you all, but I am declaring 2022 my year of intent, meaning I want everything I do to be with the overall intention of becoming the version of myself I want to be. There are a lot of areas that this applies to in my life, and we are going to get into these in this post! Intent is also my word of 2022.

Now that all of the introductory things are out of the way, let's talk about my goals for 2022 and what I am going to do to reach them! P.S. I know the site looks a lot different.. keep reading to find out why!

Category No. 1: Physical Goals

  1. Get back to my goal weight

  2. Establish an exercise routine (get into running?)

  3. Clear my skin up

  4. Transition into clean beauty and cleaning products

  5. Start taking vitamins

My goals for this year when it comes to my health/fitness/physical goals, are pretty much the same as they always are. I want to lose weight, I want to actually do some kind of physical activity, etc. I do have a few more goals targeted to beauty and skincare this year, and if you tune into Wednesday's post, you'll get more information on my clean beauty plans.

Anyway, I plan to achieve these goals by being really INTENTIONAL (see what I did there?) about my morning routine, my evening routine, and exercise. For years I've struggled with my mental health and I've always known that getting some sort of exercise would help with that, but I just never put that effort in. This year, I plan to be intentional and to hold myself accountable when it comes to exercise. Plus, I've already ordered some vitamins!

Category No. 2: Mental Goals

  1. Pray/have quiet time daily

  2. Join a small group

  3. Meditate daily

  4. Practice yoga

  5. Establish boundaries

In 2021 I feel like I did a decent job of really handling my mental health, so I feel like this year I can mainly focus on continuing to improve that. I know yoga is meant to be a physical activity, but I want to use that time to listen to my daily news podcasts and focusing on making my body feel better. When it comes to the boundaries, I definitely think there's a shift in dynamics with people when you lose a parent young (I lost my mom in November). A lot of people want to be there for you however they can, but some think that they need to replace your parent. I want to be able to keep relationships healthy by setting the boundaries that I need to protect my heart and my mental health, but maintaining the relationships/friendships that my mom had that have now been passed down to me.

I plan to achieve my mental goals by doing the same kind of thing for my physical goals: keeping healthy routines, holding myself accountable, and tracking my habits. I also plan to be really diligent about my quiet time (I think my ADHD medication (another story for another time) will help with this, as I will be able to focus better) and be really strong about my boundaries. I tend to let people walk all over me and be a people pleaser, so I really want to make sure I stand my ground.

Category No. 3: Style Goals

  1. Declutter and organize my house

  2. Invest in two luxury pieces

  3. Purchase a jewelry box

  4. Keep a running list of brands to shop and stick to those brands (no fast fashion)

  5. Establish a definite style in all areas of my life

I've never had style goals before, especially since I came to college and I both let myself go and lost myself at the same time. That being said, I definitely didn't have a specific style before, so I really want to establish that in all areas of my life this year. I also want to be really intentional about the brands I support and what they do for people, the Earth, etc.

I think the first step I am going to take here is definitely the house. I can get organized and declutter for free, so that seems like the easiest thing to do. The rest of these goals require some dedicated money saving/spending, research, and Pinteresting. I plan to keep you guys updated in future blog posts.

Category No. 4: Career Goals

  1. 1500+ followers on my social platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube, Pinterest)

  2. 100 Devyn Nicole Facebook group members and 20 #devreads book club group members (because not many people like to read)

  3. Reach out to brands I like and get my first brand deal

  4. Start my first non-profit

  5. Take the LSAT and get my Arkansas Real Estate License

This isn't to say I want to make blogging or "influencing" my career -- I really don't. But I do want to share my life with as many people as possible, because you never know what kind of friends you can meet on the internet. Not to mention, social media gets a really bad rep a lot of the time but I think it can be a very useful tool when it comes to building community.

Reaching these goals is going to require the most discipline from me by far -- I need to be able to remain consistent on a ton of social media platforms which is definitely not my forte. BUT, again, I've made "rules" for each day that will hopefully make it easier for me to get things done in a timely fashion. The non-profit, LSAT, and Real Estate License will all take a bit longer but if I break them up into small tasks, they will get done!

Category No. 5: Finance Goals

  1. Save 10,000 personally and 20,000 in our joint account

  2. Get out of debt

  3. Start investing

  4. Meet with a financial planner

  5. Make money off of my "side hustles"

I know, I know, I may shooting a little too high on this one. I really think that I can make this happen, though. Not only do I have a part-time job, but I really want to go back to Uber Eats, make money off of real estate (part-time) and maybe even make some money off of the social media? Probably not that last one, but I think if I really put my mind to it, I can get these goals accomplished.

I know I can be debt free by the end of the year for sure and I know I can meet with a financial planner fairly easily (shoutout to my sister and her connections), and Dalton and I have agreed to start investing and to do it together so that we are both in the loop. I also plan to save money by tracking every single dollar I spend every single day this year, so that I can cut things out that I don't need to be purchasing. I think that is going to be the number one money saver for me this year! I also plan to publish a blog post on money saving ideas once I find my footing here.

Category No. 6: Relationship Goals

  1. Get engaged

  2. Begin couples counseling

  3. Two dates a week

  4. Weekly financial meetings and check-ins

  5. Prioritize the relationship

OOF, now we're sharing the juicy stuff. Obviously, it's kind of strange to have a goal to get engaged when you aren't the one proposing, but Dalton and I have been planning to get engaged for at least 2 years, but COVID and my mom's untimely death kind of halted those plans. We're also notoriously bad at communicating with each other, we both communicate in ways that are not the best for the other person to understand. This is the reason for us wanting to go to couples counseling. I also am a big fan of all kinds of therapy, even if you don't have "trauma" (which I've said before and I'll say it again: not a requirement for therapy). I believe the purpose of therapy is to grow and become better, and if we're getting engaged this year, there is no better reason to try and become better communicators with each other!

Other than that, we honestly really just need to make sure we stick to our weekly check-ins and our two dates a week. Quality time is integral in sustaining a relationship, so prioritizing special time with one another is going to be really important for us, especially since this is "busy" season for debate and Dalton is in his last semester of graduate school.

Category No. 7: Friend Goals

  1. Make 3 new good friends

  2. Set healthy boundaries

  3. Decide on a bridal party

  4. Be more intentional with friends

  5. Spend quality time once a week with each "best" friend (facetime counts)

So, this may seem kind of silly to some of you, but making friends as an adult is really hard. I have had an incredibly hard time making and keeping friends in college and I really want that to change this year. I always seem to think I'm better friends with people than I actually am, so what I really want to do this year is prioritize the friendships I already have.

I really want to focus on celebrating my friends this year, so I think the best way for me to do so will be to set weekly reminders on my phone or write in my planner to focus on hanging out with my friends! Other than that, this should be kind of easy? Hopefully.

Alright, so we have finally reached the end of my goals for the new year. I definitely think things can only really go up from here, and I'm looking forward to all that 2022 will bring. Let me know your word for the year and share some goals in the comments!

A quick note on the site- this kind of goes hand in hand with my style goals. I want to create an all-around style that I feel fits my "preferred" aesthetic. The name for that aesthetic? I'm not totally sure. While I figure that out, you can keep up with me on lots of socials, including a few new ones.
